In 2022, the Royal Canadian Mint introduced a 1 oz. 99.99% pure gold Single Sourced Gold Maple Leaf bullion coin in response to market demand for greater transparency in the origin of precious metals. Now, in 2024, the Mint issues a third bullion coin composed entirely of gold originating from a single Canadian source - this time, the Detour Lake mine in Northeastern Ontario, 100% owned by Agnico Eagle Mines Limited (Agnico Eagle).
Founded in 1957, Agnico Eagle is a Canadian senior gold mining company committed to building and operating a growing, high-quality, and sustainable business. It is the largest producer of gold in Canada and the third-largest gold producer in the world. Located within the northernmost Abitibi Greenstone Belt, Detour Lake is the largest gold-producing mine in Canada, with gold reserves of 19.9 million ounces.
This third bullion coin combines responsibly mined gold from Agnico Eagle’s Detour Lake mine with the exceptional reputation of the Gold Maple Leaf (GML) bullion brand, trusted worldwide as the purest and most secure bullion coin on today's market. On the coin's reverse, the globe-cradling hand is the mark of integrity - it indicates the gold is responsibly produced and traceable, and that its expertly refined 99.99% purity was achieved following a rigorous segregation protocol.
Special features
- The third issue in the Royal Canadian Mint’s Single Mine bullion program.
- The Royal Canadian Mint’s Single Source privy mark indicates the coin’s gold was responsibly sourced from a single mine operation: in this case, the Agnico Eagle Detour Lake mine in northeastern Ontario. The globe-cradling hand reflects a commitment to strong environmental, social and governance practises. It also indicates the coin is the product of a verifiable refinement process that maintains the integrity of the gold throughout its refining journey.
- Signed by the Royal Canadian Mint’s Chief Assayer, the assay certificate on the back of the card certifies the authenticity and 99.99% purity of each coin.
- Exclusively minted from a limited supply of gold that remained segregated through every step of the refining process, from raw material to final product.
- Each coin features cutting-edge security features, including a radial line finish, a micro-engraved maple leaf laser mark with the numeral “24” (visible under magnification) denoting the coin’s year of issue, and BULLION DNA™ anti-counterfeiting technology.
- Unique credit card sized packaging is ideal for easy handling and storing.
- An easy-to-scan QR code allows access to a quick link leading to an informative website that welcomes the reader to the world of bullion.
- The obverse features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.
