'These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise…'
"These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise…"
Before humans set foot on the moon, imaginations were already exploring the possibilities ofwhat might lie in the far reaches of our galaxy.
Star Trek's imaginative storylineshave brought Canadian fans on an incredible journey through time and space. Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Uhura, Sulu and Chekov—they have been our fictional trailblazers in this new frontier. Guided by the Prime Directive and a spirit of discovery, U.S.S. Enterprise and her crew have taken us to more than 70 different worlds while encountering nearly as many alien species. Their fictional mission inspired many Canadians to pursue careers in science and technology, while futuristic Trek tech have inspired thesmartphones and tablets that have transformed everyday life.
Even today, we continue to associate the Enterprise with extraordinary discoveries, unforgettable first contacts and some memorable opponents—from the fearsome warships of the Imperial Klingon Fleet to the cloaked RomulanBirds-of-Prey. Repeat airings of the series' 79 episodes have cemented Star Trek's status as a cultural icon that is celebrated by Canadian fans across the country, and in the official Star Trek capital of Canada: Vulcan, Alberta.

Design:
The reverse design is an eye-catching tribute to the U.S.S. Enterprise. Recreating a scene from the 1968 episode I, Mudd, the applicationof rich colour over the engraved rendering gives the Enterprise a remarkable life-like quality. This three-quarter view allows for a full glimpse of the orbiting vessel's saucer section and engineering hull, while the ship's twin warp nacelles are visible at the rear. Against a dark expanse of space in the background, the yellow, gold and red-brown colours of the Class K planetbelow seem all the more vibrant. Partially framingthe top and bottom portions of the scene are the engraved word "CANADA", the face value "20 DOLLARS" and the year "2016", all in a special Star Trek font.
Did you know…
- Star Trek actually made its Canadian television debut two days earlier than the series' premiere on its own network!
- Two models were used throughout the series' production: an 11-foot studio model and a smaller "3-footer" used mostly for promotional shots.
- The studio model was significantly modified eight times since it was built in 1964. Its last alteration came in 1967 during the production process for the famous episode, The Trouble With Tribbles.
- Within Star Trek's fictional timeline, the Enterprise served as a Starfleet vessel for 40 years and achieved her greatest fame under the five-yearcommand of Captain Kirk (played by Canadian actor William Shatner).
- Throughout the franchise's history, several incarnations of the ship were also named
U.S.S. Enterprise. The Enterprise from The Original Series bears the (fictional) registration number NCC-1701, while subsequent Enterprise ships are distinguished by a different letter
(e.g. NCC-1701-B). - A replica of the Enterprise was erected in 1995 in Vulcan, Alberta, where the annual "Spock Days" draws StarTrek fans from around the world!
