About
$300 Gold Coin - Prince Edward Island Coat of Arms (2009)
A coat of arms on a flag or document conveys an immediate senseof authority; of history, tradition and prestige. Their heraldic symbols and distinct arrangements dateback to the Middle Ages; still these insignia continue to influence modern arms. The Coat of Arms for Prince Edward Island were originally granted in 1905 and expanded to include the crest and supporters on December 13, 2002.
Highlights: A mintage of just 1,000 coins worldwide makes this coin a limited work of art in its own right. Struck in 14-karat gold with a design that’s steeped in history and tradition, it’s a unique collectible that’s a numismatic must-have.
Reverse: The Coat of Arms of Prince Edward Island featuring the Provincial Shieldwith the English lion as well as an oak tree (England) and saplings representing the province’s three counties. The Island’s agriculture and fishery are represented in the two silver foxes that are standing on a mound of floral emblems for the province and its first European settlers. The eight-pointed star atthe centre is the Mi’kmaq symbol for the sun. The Arms are topped with a golden helmet, a wreath and Blue Jay wearing the Royal Crown of St. Edward and holding a red oak leaf in its beak.
