ABOUT THE SASKATCHEWAN COAT OF ARMS
Saskatchewan's Coat of Arms was granted by Royal Warrant in September 1986. Before that time, it used the Provincial Shield originally granted by King Edward VII in 1906 as its armorial emblem. This shield, with three gold sheaves of wheat and a royal lion, still figures prominently at the centre of the provincial Arms.
COIN DESIGN
Your stunningly engraved gold coin captures every detail of the Saskatchewan Coat of Arms.
The image centers on a shield featuring the traditional lion symbol associated with royalty. The lion surmounts a field featuring three sheaves of wheat, symbolizing the province's core agricultural resource.
The shield is borne by a royal lion on the left and a white-tailed deer, Saskatchewan's animal emblem, on the right. Each of these supporters wearsa Prairie Indian beaded collar and the lily-shaped badge of the Saskatchewan Order of Merit. The lion's badge bears Canada's emblem, the maple leaf, while that of the deer displays the western red lily, the provincial flower.
Above the shield is a crest featuring a golden helmet of sovereignty, symbolic of Saskatchewan's participation in Confederation. Standing atop the helmet is the Canadian beaver, representing Canada and its unique history, First Peoples and economic development. The beaver holds a western red lily and bears the crown of the monarchy on its back.
Beneath the shield is a banner bearing the motto MULTIS E GENTIBUS VIRES, Latin for "From Many Peoples Strength," which floats abovea base of western red lilies.
